St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister the Right Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas has reiterated that the 20-acre Agro-Tourism project, is critically important as part of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Government’s strategy for its economic diversification plan.

“When we started out on this project two years ago, it was really a vision that we believed could be made into reality as we wanted to partner with the Republic of China (Taiwan) in the continuing the transformation of our national economy,” said Dr. Douglas, following a visit to the construction site at Sir Gilles.

He said several steps have been taken in transitioning from a sugar-based agriculture economy to a new economy based on services with the full support from sectors like agriculture and manufacturing. It is a long and progressive journey from the past to the future and this particular project, this demonstration Agro-Tourism Farm is another clear indication that we are on a path to success,” said Dr. Douglas.

He expressed thanks to the local and Taiwanese staff, the support team, the secretarial staff, those who have come in from time to time at different stages in the advancement of this project.

He personally thanked Resident Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan), His Excellency Miguel Tsao for ensuring the continuity of the project

The 16,956 square feet Green House is already completed and comprises 1,600 pieces of glass weighing 24 tons.

The Tourist Activity Center, Tea House, Botanic Garden, Fruit Farm and entrance are nearing completion.
